Benefits of Using an Onboarding Checklist for New Employees
When recruiting new employees, the management team sometimes forgets that even employees with a lot of experience still need to adapt and transition to the new workplace smoothly. To do this, the onboarding process needs to be done by all new employees to ensure that their transition to their new roles is done properly. Some companies might think that onboarding new employees could take up time that could result in the business productivity slowing down. It is the opposite. Making sure that all new employees undergo orientation in their first week, could make their transition to the new company to be faster and better, especially by using an onboarding checklist provided by the HR department.
In moving from one office to another, to new work culture, and new environment, of course, one must try to adapt. The transition that they must do with the new standard of work procedures, new company, and organization culture, and even how the team celebrates their success could be different. Here is where the orientation program for new hires could take place in making sure that they fit right in with their work colleagues. There are a lot of benefits that a company could get from having an orientation period for their new employees.
An onboarding checklist is a checklist that the HR department will need to prepare before their new employees arrive. If you don’t have this type of checklist in the company yet, you can search for one online and modify it to suit the company’s needs for the orientation week. You can also save it in the company’s network system to make it easier to edit and modify in the future too. Through orientation week, new employees will be able to try and adapt faster to the culture of the organization, including managing their expectations in working at a new company.

What is the Onboarding Process for New Employees?
Creating a new onboarding checklist is not too difficult. You need to make sure that all the introductory part of the organization is included in it. As a starting point, you need to include the office tour, contact person for each department, employee kit, rules & regulations of the company, the job description for the new employee, the structure of the organization, schedule of company’s activities, safety & emergency procedure of the organization, employee benefits, and many more. You can add other things that are necessary to the onboarding checklist for the new employees when advised by the management too.
The office tour is one of the most important parts of the checklist. You will be able to go around to all departments in the building and someone from the HR department will introduce you to everyone, including the managers from each department. You can even make some notes on your onboarding checklist if needed. There might be some rooms that are not accessible due to their confidentiality and file storing privacy. You will need to pay attention to this as well and note it down on your checklist. Once your checklist is done for your orientation week, you will need to get it signed by your supervisor and the HR department.
